Fireworks Party Saturday 8th November

TLERA Members and their families are invited to our annual Fireworks Party, to be held at Horniman School, Horniman Drive on Saturday 8th November 2014.

Paid up TLERA members should recently have received a Yellow flier for the event through their letterbox – please bring this with you to help speed up entry.

Doors open at 6.30pm, from when food and drink will be available, including home made mulled wine, all of which is included in the price of your ticket.

Entrance fee for members this year is £7 Adults, £3 accompanied children. This event is for members of the association only, but if you live on the estate and would like to join the association and have yet to do so, membership can be paid at the gate (£5 per household) in addition to the respective fireworks entry fee.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Please note that the display will go ahead regardless of the weather (but there is a small covered area). Please don’t bring any of your own fireworks or sparklers (for insurance reasons!) and note that unfortunately there are no toilet facilities available. Some younger children may require ear defenders if they don’t like loud noise as we’ve invested in some serious fireworks again!

Annual General Meeting 2014

The Association’s AGM will be held on Thursday 9th October between 7-8.30pm at Horniman Primary School, Horniman Drive.

Julie Loffstadt, Head Teacher, will be speaking about her vision for the School. Our new local councillors will also be there to answer any questions you may have. Issues of current concern include planning, the maintenance of our Estate, and road safety – particularly with regard to the danger to children on their way to School.

We look forward to seeing you there.

The meeting is open to all residents living in the area covered by the Association: Amroth Close, Canonbie Road, Cleeve Hill, Horniman Drive, Langton Rise, Liphook Crescent, Netherby Road, Rocombe Crescent, Ringmore Rise and Tewkesbury Avenue.

The Horniman Café will also be open and serving food and drinks around the bandstand.

Garden Opening 2014

Our NGS Garden Opening on 31st May and 1st June was a huge success. The sun shone, 338 adult visitors plus lots of children came to see the gardens, many of whom were very tempted by the wonderful array of homemade cakes on offer. The same four gardens opened in 2013. This year they raised just over £3511, more than a 50% increase on last year! And the 50% increase was reflected in the amount we raised for the tea and cakes – our highest amount ever. So our thanks to all who the members who baked cakes, donated plants, and helped out at the event.

A new member also opened her garden for the first time on 13th July, raising over £700 – a fantastic result. All the money raised will go to the mainly cancer and caring charities supported by the National Garden Scheme.

Open Gardens

Two gardens are opening for the National Gardens Scheme on SUNDAY JULY 13th between 2-5.30pm.

7 Canonbie Rd will be opening for the first time, and the second garden is nearby at 4 Piermont Green SE22. Homemade cakes and tea are available at both gardens, as are plants for sale. There is also live music by Richard Bremner and the 3 piece band ‘Open Road’at Piermont Green. More details available at http://www.ngs.org.uk

Open gardens event

Four very different hillside gardens within a short walk of each other will be opening on 31st May (5-8pm) and 1st June (2-6pm) for the National Garden Scheme (NGS). The gardens opening are: Coach House, The Hermitage, Westwood Park; 27 Horniman Drive; 28 Horniman Drive; and 53 Ringmore Rise.

• Discover a sculptor’s creative courtyard ‘container’ garden crammed with unusual plants and the artist’s sculptures and ceramics (for sale).
• A small SE-facing garden with borders of rich colours within formal outlines to complement a modern extension plus mini meadow and a tranquil vegetable garden with seating, greenhouse and compost area.
• A corner plot garden of inspired by Beth Chatto’s dry garden, with informal borders crammed with herbaceous plants and shrubs to suit a variety of conditions.
• A hilltop country garden in two sections with deep informal flower borders under mature trees, raised vegetable beds, a fruit cage, greenhouse, chickens, and wildlife areas to encourage interest and diversity.

There will also be a Story Hunt for children. After being given a sheet of pictures from modern and old classics, they then have to find the matching scene in the garden. There are different hunts for children of all ages from 3years upwards.

Combined admission: £7 (payable at 28 Horniman Drive). No charge for accompanied children. Please note that if parents just want to bring children to the Story Hunt garden the charge will be £3 for adults with children free. All money raised will again be donated to cancer and caring charities.

Plants available on both days. Garden ceramics and sculptures for sale at the Coach House. Refreshments available on Saturday evening. Tea and homemade cakes on Sunday.
