Wednesday, 30th July
The last of the three Jazz picnics will be held on the bandstand in Horniman Gardens from 7-8.30p.m. Bring your own picnic and listen to an evening of music that goes back to the Edwardian roots of jazz from 1910s ragtime to 1930s swing while watching the sun set over London. The Horniman Café will also be open and serving food and drinks around the bandstand.
Our NGS Garden Opening on 31st May and 1st June was a huge success. The sun shone, 338 adult visitors plus lots of children came to see the gardens, many of whom were very tempted by the wonderful array of homemade cakes on offer. The same four gardens opened in 2013. This year they raised just over £3511, more than a 50% increase on last year! And the 50% increase was reflected in the amount we raised for the tea and cakes – our highest amount ever. So our thanks to all who the members who baked cakes, donated plants, and helped out at the event.
A new member also opened her garden for the first time on 13th July, raising over £700 – a fantastic result. All the money raised will go to the mainly cancer and caring charities supported by the National Garden Scheme.
Two gardens are opening for the National Gardens Scheme on SUNDAY JULY 13th between 2-5.30pm.
7 Canonbie Rd will be opening for the first time, and the second garden is nearby at 4 Piermont Green SE22. Homemade cakes and tea are available at both gardens, as are plants for sale. There is also live music by Richard Bremner and the 3 piece band ‘Open Road’at Piermont Green. More details available at http://www.ngs.org.uk
